There are questions many people have about art, but don't know who to ask. Gallery dealers are the perfect ones to ask. Today, we ask Martha Press; former owner of The Gallery on Lafayette in Trenton, NJ and The Farnsworth Gallery in Bordentown, NJ.
Our question this month is:
"Why should I buy original art? Prints are cheaper."
Martha says: " There is nothing like one of a kind original piece of art whether it be a painting or sculpture or pottery bowl. It was created from the imagination and skill of the artist. It is not a throw away piece. It can mark an occasion, resonate with the buyer, taking a person back home or promising a new journey. So often a patron would come in and tell me their spouse or parent or other had passed away and they would buy a painting almost like a memorial to them and the happiest occasions, a wedding, an anniversary, or birth of a child were all reasons patrons came back again and again. . Original work is so rich!"
