How to Art Like a Pro: Barter
Many Artists love to barter their art. Artists do it among themselves frequently. It is one of the best kept secrets of buying from artists. Although galleries may not barter for artist's work, many artists do. Goods and services of equal value are rarely refused from artists in exchange for their work.
Ask the artist if she would consider barter. If she accepts tell her the goods and services you have access to. The more things you can provide, the more chances of a successful exchange. Don't insist, however, on all barter. Artists may be more apt to agree to a transaction if some of the price of the artwork is paid in cash.
Make sure to get a written statement about the art your agreement.
