Ask A Gallerist: How do I protect my art?

How do I protect my art?

In general, protecting the safety of art work means keeping it on the walls and not stored in basements and attics. Always keep work away from moisture unless ceramic or sculptural work. Extreme heat or cold is destructive even to the best materials. Moving companies can provide special boxes and materials to protect work whether it is across town or across country. All work should be protected when moving and when storing even for a short time. Rule of thumb, paintings should be rested back to back and front to front with acid free material in between. Artists use moving pads, foam rubber etc when moving paintings for a show.

"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life".
