Ask a Gallerist: Jason Horejs of Xanadu Gallery

Q. Is it important to start with a clear vision or goal for your collection?

A. It’s not necessary to start with a clear vision or rigid goal for your collection. In fact, putting that kind of pressure on yourself can detract from the joy of discovering art. Instead, embrace the process as an adventure—let art wash over you, explore broadly, and allow your interests to unfold naturally.

Many collectors begin by considering the space they have available for displaying art, but beyond that, keeping an open mind is key. By exploring different styles, artists, and mediums, you can uncover unexpected connections and develop a deeper understanding of what excites you. Collecting art is as much about the journey as the destination, and remaining open to possibilities ensures that the experience stays fresh and inspiring.
