The prized artwork of my art collection is my Andy Warhol Campbell’s Soup can - Onion flavor. I bought it at auction, determined to acquire it, no matter what. (Well, I’d like to think it was that way, but I did have a limit on how high I would go. There’s something thrilling about bidding in an auction. You just have to set firm limits beforehand.)
I knew about the Pop Art movement and was familiar with Warhol’s images, (hey, I went to art school) but I didn’t understand the message and point of view behind Warhol’s work until I studied up on him and his art. When I understood where he was coming from, I grew to love what he did, seeing why he was considered a great artist. I also let his work influence me in my art-making - which I really appreciate. When I came upon the opportunity to purchase this piece, I snapped it up, and so glad I did.
